Do You Trust Him?

Do You Trust Him?

Greg King

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Trusting God is a real test of our faith and knowledge and understanding of Him and His word. Do I trust God no matter what comes? The alternative is to trust in myself and lean on my own understanding.  The writer goes on to say in Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. Jeremiah says in chapter 10 and verse 23, “I know, O LORD, that a man's way is not in himself, nor is it in a man who walks to direct his steps.” When it appears that my life is spiraling out of control, I must remember that God loves me, the God that created the heavens and the earth, created mankind, and is alive and working in our lives today. I’ve got to trust him to direct my path. We are told in Ephesians 6:10, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

David fighting Goliath is a classic example of one whose faith was strong in the Lord. His brothers doubted him. King Saul had reservations about him. Goliath laughed and taunted him. In the day of trouble, David remained steadfast because his faith was strong.

Jesus ended the sermon on the mount with the story of the wise man and the foolish man. Both built houses. Both encountered storms of wind, rain, and flood. The foolish man built on the sand. His house collapsed. He did not stand in a time of trouble. The wise man, not just hearing the words of Jesus but having the faith to build a solid foundation upon the Lord, endured the storm because his strength was in the Lord.

Along with joy & good comes adversity and trouble. It is because of our commitment and relationship to God that he has the greatest blessing of all and that is hope! The child of God lives each day with the blessed hope of the resurrection to life. Because of God’s love and care we can conquer this life and inherit the heavenly reward. It is promised to all who submit their will to God in obedience to His word and remain faithful until death. Are you blessed with that hope? When you feel that life is chewing you up just to spit you out; don’t quit! Put your trust in the Lord. The Lord God Almighty ever lives, rules in the kingdoms of men, desires to shower us with mercy, and will not forsake us.  Pain will not leave; sorrow will linger on this earth. Yet the bright day is coming when God will wipe away all tears. Are you ready for that day?
