Does God Hear My Prayers

Does God Hear My Prayers?

Greg King

God told His people in Isaiah 1:15; “When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.” His rejection of their prayers was a result of their sins. Indeed, their sins had separated them from God: “Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.” Isaiah 59:1-2

In John 9 Jesus made mud with His saliva and put it on the eyes of a blind man. He told the man to go and wash in the pool of Siloam to receive his sight. After his sight was given to him he answered the critics of Jesus and states essentially the same thing we find in Isaiah. “We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.” John 9:31

It is all too often the case that we turn to the Lord only when we are in trouble, having had no thought of Him in good times.  We think that He is some sort of 911 line when danger threatens!  He has not promised to lend aid to those whose lives are at variance with His Word.  One who lives without Him normally should not expect Him to come to their aid simply for the asking.  Prayer is a privilege, not a right.  It is offered by the faithful: For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” 1 Peter 3:12

He will hear and answer my prayers if I am living faithfully before Him.  Does He hear your prayers?
