What Would The Devil Say? (1)

By Greg King

The devil is alive and well in the world today (1 Peter 5:8-9). There is a good deal of animated discussion on the origin of Satan.  I, for one           am not concerned about where he came from but am concerned about what he is doing now that he is here. If the Devil were allowed to have our attention, what might he say?

“The Church is not important and you don’t need to be a part of it.”

Why? What would be his reasons for doing so?

(1) The saved are in the church-- he wants you lost (Acts 2:47; Col. 1:13).

(2) God is glorified through the church (Eph. 3:21 -- to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

(3) The devil knows that the church is responsible for preaching the Gospel (Eph. 3:10 so that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places.) and he hates the Gospel.

(4) The Prince of this World knows that Christ is the head of the church and every member of the church (Eph. 1:22-23 And He put all things in subjection under His feet and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.)

How would Satan go about convincing someone to believe his lie?

(1) Argue that the church is non-essential.  Convince them that they can worship God just as easily on the creek bank, on the couch or in the mall.

(2) Convince them that one church is as good as another (Mat. 15:13 -But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted.)

(3) If that didn’t work, perhaps he would fill their life so full of “activities” (all of which are good of and within themselves) that they don’t have time for the church.

(4) Have someone hurt your feelings so that you quit.
