What Would The Devil Say? (3)
By Greg King
If the father of lies had your attention he might say something like:
“Unity isn’t all that important!”
Why? What would be his reasons for saying this?
(1) He knows that the Lord desires unity and peace among His people. (Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!) John 17:20-21 “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.”
(2) He knows the Lord hates discord and infighting. (Prov. 6:19 The Lord hates …one who spreads strife among brothers. (1 Cor. 1:10 Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.)
(3) He knows that if Christians are biting and devouring one another, they are doing his work for him. (Gal. 5:15)
How would Satan go about sowing discord among a local congregation?
(1) He might elevate personal spats into congregation battles which was the danger in Phil. 4:2.
(2) Cause members to fuss, fight and divide over matters of personal judgment (Rom. 14).
(3) Cause one or more to seek prominence and dominate the congregation as did Diotrephes (3 John 9).
Satan will do everything he can to destroy every one of us and every congregation. Sometimes he strikes like a viper; but mostly he charms his victims with false hopes and promises of joy and pleasure, until he lulls them to sleep so that he might coil himself around them and slowly strangle all their spiritual inclinations. However, Satan can be defeated. James 4:7 “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” Ephesians 4:27 “do not give the devil an opportunity.” Don’t let him snatch you out of the Lord’s hand. Don’t listen to his lies. John 8:44
