We Walk By Faith

"We Walk By Faith"

By Greg King

“So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Cor 5:6-7).

There are several instances in scripture where the word "walk" is used as a metaphor for one’s manner of conduct. Our life is a journey. We are simply "sojourners and pilgrims" here on this earth. One of the old hymns I grew up singing says, "this world is not my home; I’m just a passing through..." In the body we are "absent from the Lord”, eternity is what we long for. As we go through our journey here on earth we "walk by faith".

Our decisions and choices are made with respect to things which are unseen rather than to those which are seen (2 Cor. 4:16-18). Although we cannot see God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, and Heaven with our eyes, we have complete confidence that they are real and we live accordingly.

Faith gives us the confidence to follow and obey the Lord’s commands at all times. Regardless of what is happening in our life our desire is to be that living sacrifice that is only our reasonable service (Rom. 12:2). When dangers arise our faith lights our path and gives us courage. Our faith helps us to overcome doubt and temptations for we believe what is written in 1 John 5:4; "Faith is the victory that overcomes the world!"

We do not "walk by sight." We aren’t influenced by the things we see. The world is influenced by wealth, honor, prestige, and praise. Those who walk by sight use the world as their guide. Walking by faith is taking every step according to our Lord’s direction. Faith is believing fully and is confirmed by our obedience to God. Are you walking by faith?
