Our Responsibility to God’s Word (2)

I must allow the Word to change me. David states in Psalms 119:102, “I have not turned aside from Your ordinances, For You Yourself have taught me. The word is powerless unless we unleash it in our hearts and lives. We must allow the word to control and discipline our hearts and lives. We must allow God’s will and righteous standards to become our own. Verse 104 says, “From Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. Far too often we laugh at evil instead of hating it. The way of sin is a false way; it deceives, and will ruin, all that walk in it. It is the wrong way. What is there to like about it? It is the character of every good person that they hate the way of sin and hate it because it is a false way that leads to condemnation. The more understanding we get by the word of God the more rooted will our hatred of sin be.
I must love the Word of God. 97 “O how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.” Do we feel the same about God’s word?
I must have an appetite for it. 103 “How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Far too often we think of God’s word like liver; good for us, but not very pleasant. Think of how your use of the Word of God would change if you viewed it like cheesecake rather than liver.
God’s Word can transform us but we must dedicate ourselves to it as part of our covenant with God. David said, 106 “I have sworn and I will confirm it, That I will keep Your righteous ordinances. What about you?
