Some Things Are Impossible
Some Things Are Impossible
Greg King
We don’t like to think about things that are simply impossible for us to do. I’ve known some people in my life that if told something was impossible it made them more determined than ever to do them. They seemingly would try and move mountains and go to any extreme to get what they wanted. They refuse to accept the impossible.
The scripture says in Hebrews 11:6, “And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” The writer identifies the fact that faith is not just simply acknowledging God exist but also seeking after Him. Without that faith he says it is impossible to please God. Yet how many try to do what the scripture says is impossible? We need to feel the force and the sting of the word “impossible.” We are not going to make it if we do not have our full faith in God. Notice that it is not difficult to please God without faith. It is not challenging to please God without faith. There are very few statements in scriptures where we find the words that something is impossible. In fact, we have been taught that there is nothing that is impossible with God. But here is a statement about what is impossible, and we need to listen and heed the words.
The scripture says in Hebrews 6:4-6, “For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.” If one has enjoyed all the benefits of being in God’s family and has the knowledge of the truth, but then falls away, it is impossible to restore them again to repentance because they are choosing the crucify the Son of God and are holding him in contempt. There is nothing that we will be able to do to bring them to repentance because they already know what they need to do. They have received the knowledge of the truth and participated in God’s family. It is impossible for you to restore them because they are making the choice to crucify the Son of God. They have not slipped into temptation or are having a moment of weakness. They know but choose to hold Jesus in contempt.
We may not like it or want to accept it, but some things are just impossible!
