God's Will

God’s Will

Greg King

The fact that God has a plan for man is irrefutable. He has a plan for my life. He has a plan for your life. The will of God, divine will, or God's plan is the concept of God having a plan for our lives. The Bible is God’s mind in written form & He has told us what He wants us to know.

In the noun form (will) is something desired. It is what one wishes or has determined to be done. It is a choice or determination of one having authority or power. The phrase “will of God” is scattered throughout the pages of His Holy Word.

In Hebrews 10:7-10 it was God’s will that Jesus come to do what the law couldn’t. The Father took no delight in sacrificing his only son, but He prepared a body for Him making sacrifice possible. Unlike the OT sacrifices the sacrifice of Christ ended the need for sacrifices. Christ came to do the will of the Father! Jesus said, “I come to do thy will o God.”

1 Peter 4:2 says as Christians we are not to live in the flesh to the lust of men but to the will of God. In Acts 22:14 Ananias says that God’s plan for Paul involved that he know God’s will. That he see the Just one and hear the voice of the Just one in order to serve as an apostle and take the gospel to the Gentiles.

In Romans 8:26-27 we find Paul encouraging Christians to persevere. To patiently endure suffering until the crown is won. We can endure because the Holy Spirit helps us in our infirmities & weaknesses. What we learned about prayer we learned from the teaching of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes there are urgings & longings in the heart of the sincere child of God that we can’t express. We have feelings of helplessness & days of need without knowing what that need really is or what would meet the need. Paul calls it “utterable groanings”. We are told that it is God’s will that the Holy Spirit intercedes in groanings which cannot be framed into human speech. Sometimes we lack the correct words when we pray. The Spirit helps us! That’s God’s will! He appears before God on our behalf because ….”according to the will of God” The spirit makes intercession in accord with what God desires for His saints! Isn’t that great to know? Isn’t that comforting to know? The God of heaven has a will, a desire, a plan for our life!
