Only The WORD of the LORD! (2)

Greg King

We said in the last article the Ahab is described as the worst King ever to rule over God’s people. He had no desire to hear from the Lord. He only wanted to do what he saw fit. King Ahab reluctantly calls for the prophet of the Lord at Jehoshaphat’s request. When the messenger goes to get Micaiah, the Lord’s prophet; he tells Micaiah that all the King’s prophets have promised victory for the king against the Syrians. Be sure that your words agree with theirs. Micaiah’s response shows that he truly is a prophet of God. Micaiah says that he will say only what the Lord tells him to say. (1 Kings 22:13-14)

After some banter between the King and the Prophet, Micaiah tells Ahab of his vision of all Israel scattering like sheep without a shepherd. The master has been killed and the people are to return in peace. Micaiah says that they will NOT be victorious and Ahab is going to be killed in battle. (1 Kings 22:20)

The child of knows that God’s word cannot and must not be altered. Micaiah is asked to make his prophecy match what the other prophets are saying. Micaiah’s response is what every child of God’s response should be. He can only say what God’s word says. That attitude and mindset must be our same life standard. We can only teach what the word of the Lord teaches! We can only do what the word of the Lord says! We should demand to only be taught what God’s word says!

Paul told the young evangelist Timothy, “I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season andout of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (2 Timothy 4:1-4)

What does the word of the Lord say? Christians should want the word of the Lord opened and taught. Nothing else is acceptable. We must live our lives like Micaiah. We will only hear the word of the Lord! We will only say the word of the Lord! We will only accept the word of the Lord!
