The All Sufficiency Of The Gospel (4)
Greg King
Along with being perfect and powerful. The Gospel Is Complete. 2Timothy 3:16-17 tells us, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
The all-sufficiency and absolute adequacy & adaptability of the Bible to meet the demands of the Christian is emphasized in this passage. Christians believe this; they believe that “His divine power has given us all things that pertain to life and Godliness, through the knowledge of him that has called us to glory and virtue” as 1 Peter 1:3 states. It is in the Bible and the Bible alone that I can come to know who I am and where I am going. It is in the Bible and the Bible alone that I can come to know my purpose, how my family should operate, how to worship, and how to be pleasing to God. For more than a century, churches of Christ have been saying, “where the Bible speaks, we speak and where it is silent we are silent” 1 Peter 4:11. For me to accept any ritual, handbook, catechism, manual, discipline, confession of faith, or prayer book to govern my religious activities, would be to make void my faith in the all-sufficiency of the scriptures. If the Bible thoroughly furnishes a man unto every good work, then why have a supplementary book? Is not the adoption of another book of human authorship a lack of full trust in the all-sufficiency of the Holy Scriptures? The gospel furnishes the man of God all the instruction needed for his complete life. The Bible is adequate for man’s every spiritual need. The best thing anyone could do for themselves is to read it, study it, and follow it.
Don’t be deceived by the devises of men. Follow the word of God and it only!
